On Thursday July 12th, East Brandywine Fire Company and Glen Moore Fire Company were dispatched to Applecross Country Club Development for a fire involving construction equipment.
Upon arrival, Assistant 49-A notified the County that a Pettibone was well involved. Engine 49 arrived shortly after and crews extinguished the fire. During extinguishment two hydraulic lines exploded creating a massive fireball.
Following extinguishment crews from both companies quickly turned their attention to mitigating the environmental hazard. Approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid mixed with water were flowing into two different storm water inlets. Additionally a small amount of fluid made its way to the retention basin.
Both storm water inlets were blocked using booms / dirt / and oil dry, as well as the drain into the retention basin.
Appropriate notifications were made to East Brandywine Township officials, Department of Environmental Protection, Chief 15, and an Environmental clean-up group.
The Officers from each Fire Company would like to recognize their crews quick work with minimizing the environmental impact of the call.
