On Wednesday evening November 2nd East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers participated in a unique training exercise which was intended to stretch the Company's resources.

Training Officer Chris Keen and Assistant Chief Vince D'Amico developed a scenario that tested participants critical thinking skills and ability to improvise.

Personnel were asked to staff Engine 49-1, Engine 49-5, QRS 49, and Utility 49 and stage at a predetermined location. Once in position a BLS accident was dispatched with QRS 49 being the only unit due on the assignment.

Upon the arrival of QRS 49, crews encountered a two car automobile accident with entrapment involving fire. Additionally to increase the difficulty of the scenario personnel were faced with 4 patients, three of whom had been ejected from the vehicle. The incident quickly escalated and multiple resources were requested.

Training Officer Keen summed it up best by saying "this drill forced crews to focus on the big picture before making critical decisions". Keen also added we are only limited by our imagination and creativity, its alright to be an outside the box thinker".
