Over the last two months the volunteers of the East Brandywine Fire Company have responded to an unprecedented number of "working" building fires.

According to Assistant Chief Vince D'Amico "it is not unusual for our Company, which is relatively small to respond to on average about 12 dwelling fires a year when you include mutual aide requests". D'Amico added "however in the first quarter of this year the Company has already responded to 13 working building fires".

Captain Joe Monestere who in addition to his operational duties oversees data collection and fire reporting stated "data integrity is essential, to be considered a working fire, significant action must be taken on the part of the Fire Company". Monestere stated "using last week as an example the house fire on Lenora Lane would not be considered as a working fire".

Last week the Fire Company responded to three more reported building fires, two which were mutual aide requests and a third which was in the Company's first due response area.

On Thursday April 27th the Company along with our mutual aide partners responded to the 100 block of Lenora Lane for a reported dwelling fire. It was reported by the homeowner that black smoke was coming out of the heating system and the heating system was on fire. Upon arrival the a smoke condition was noted in the home however the fire was contained primarily to the inside of the HVAC system. The response was quickly scaled back and the home was ventilated.

On Saturday April 29th East Brandywine volunteers assisted the Westwood Fire Company with a dwelling fire on Washington Avenue in Valley Township. First arriving personnel from Westwood Fire Company, Sadsburyville Fire Company, and Wagontown Fire Company did an excellent job of quickly containing a fire which appeared to be predominantly in the walls of the house. East Brandywine volunteers assisted with overhaul upon arrival.

Lastly on Sunday April 30th East Brandywine Fire Company assisted the Glen Moore Fire Company with a well involved structure fire on Potts School Road in Wallace Township. Multiple Fire Companies spent the better part of the night bringing this fire under control.
