Apparatus Design Committee Travels to Harrisburg

Over the course of the last several months East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers have started the process of developing specifications for a new Engine and Ladder.

The goal is to have both apparatus placed into service in 2019, at which time Engine 49-1 would be fifteen years old and Ladder 49 twenty-one years old.

In order to accomplish this goal a committee was formed to design apparatus that best serves our Community's needs. According to Chief Engineer Bob Zynn who is co-chair of the committee "our goal is to design apparatus that are incredibly functional and fit into our operational goals". Zynn, who has designed other apparatus, said, "our volunteers spend countless hours reviewing design features that we can incorporate into our trucks to improve our service delivery".

To that end seven committee members traveled to Harrisburg on Friday May 20th to review apparatus. One Engine in particular was top on their list to review, which was Harrisburg Bureau of Fire’s (HBF) Wagon 4. The Committee would like to thank Chief Brian Enterline and Deputy Chief Michael Souder for spending time with our team reviewing different design elements and their associated rationale.

During the trip to Harrisburg our team also spent time meeting with Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Tim Solobay. Commissioner Solobay has always been a friend and supportive of our initiatives.

We look forward to keeping you posted on our progress with regard to this very exciting process. We would also like to thank a number of Companies / Departments who have allowed us to review their apparatus to date:
