East Brandywine Volunteers Support Tunnel To Towers Run in New York

By East Brandywine Fire Company
September 24, 2017

On Sept. 11, 2001, FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller was off-duty and on his way to meet his brothers when he learned of the attacks on the World Trade Center towers. He turned his truck around and raced towards the danger, but was stopped at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.

Siller couldn’t be deterred from his date with destiny and his duty to save lives. He strapped 60 pounds of gear on his back and ran through the tunnel and to the World Trade Center where his life was given for others.

On Sunday August 24th, twenty three of our members and friends journeyed to NYC to remember the sacrifice and run or walk the same path FF Siller did, through the tunnel to the towers. Over 35,000 people participated in this emotional tribute to those who lost their lives that fateful day.

Special thank to FF Mark Ferrari and Deputy Chief Joe Edwards for organizing this amazing event.

Also thank-you to Kraphs Coaches for donating the passenger bus which allowed for seamless transport in and out of New York City.
