June 28, 2018

On Wednesday evening June 27th, East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers participated in scenario based training for emergencies involving both medical and trauma patients.

While our organization does not have a transport ambulance we offer emergency medical care in the form of a Quick Response Unit / Service (QRS). EMS Captain Greg Kohlmaier said "a lot of residents don't realize that we have 22 EMT's who routinely respond to over four hundred calls a year and provide high quality medical care".

In an effort to further improve our teams skills surrounding; patient assessment, critical thinking, and appropriate interventions the evening focused solely on EMS scenarios. The training was facilitated by our EMS Leadership which includes, Director Cathie Rawlings, Captan Greg Kohlmaier, and Lieutenant Dave Quigley.

The scenarios involved the following:

1. A cardiac arrest patient
2. Motor vehicle accident with two patients with traumatic injuries
3. An emotional disorder
4. Chest pain and respiratory difficulty

Director Rawlings said she was thrilled with regard to how successful the evening was and was happy to see the number of firefighters attend in addition to the EMT's.

The evening started with a surprise scenario. A car pulled in with a patient in cardiac arrest.
