In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 19th, East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched along with Minquas EMS to a single-vehicle accident on Bollinger Road in East Brandywine Township. The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 AM, after West Brandywine Police reportedly observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 322 before turning onto Bollinger Road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck multiple bushes, a plastic fence, and two trees, coming to rest with heavy damage and the driver trapped inside. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. Upon arrival, East Brandywine crews encountered significant debris, including tree branches surrounding and on top of the vehicle. Firefighters used chainsaws to clear the area before beginning the extrication process. Crews then deployed multiple tools to remove both passenger-side doors, the “B” pillar, the back of the passenger seat, and ultimately cut and lifted the roof of the vehicle to allow for a safe removal of the driver. The extrication took 17 minutes from the time of arrival, and the driver was removed safely and turned over to EMS care. The patient was conscious and transported by Minquas EMS to a local hospital for further evaluation. The Pennsylvania State Police SCAT (Serious Crash Accident Team) was requested to the scene to conduct an accident investigation. Bollinger Road remained closed for several hours during the investigation. East Brandywine Fire Company would like to thank Minquas EMS, West Brandywine Police, and Pennsylvania State Police for their assistance on scene. |
