By East Brandywine Fire Company
July 21, 2021

At 11:54 am on Wednesday, July 21st East Brandywine volunteers were dispatched to assist Wagontown Fire Company along with multiple other local units for a house fire with explosions and entrapment in the 400blk of Hibernia Rd in West Brandywine Twp.

Immediately after dispatch, West Brandywine Police confirmed they heard and felt the explosion across the street at their station and they were now reporting the house fully involved with several injuries and one subject trapped on the roof.

Engine 49-2, Engine 49-5, Ladder 49, Rescue 49, and Deputy 49 all made the response. Engine 49-2 arrived and were directed into the main driveway off of Hibernia Rd. The crew laid a supply line at the end of the driveway and then deployed the 400' 1 3/4 line to the main farmhouse and started an exterior attack. Additional crews also stretched a 300' 1 3/4 and 2 1/2 line off of 49-2 as well.

Engine 49-5 arrived on the scene and took a position on Hibernia Rd directly behind Engine 33-1 and hand jacked a 5-inch line to supply them with water. As more tankers began to arrive a dump site was set up at the intersection of Lafayette and Hibernia behind Engine 49-5. This dumpsite eventually supplied Ladder 49 after they were placed in service with master streams.

Rescue 49 went to the Beaver Creek Development and set up a fill site for the tankers to get water.

Unfortunately, multiple civilians were injured in this fire. 3 were transported by Ambulance to the hospital while 3 were flown by air medical. Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured and the entire family.

Crews from 49 cleared the scene at 1800hrs

Thanks for your hard work, EBFC. Do you happen to know what the explosions were from?
