On Tuesday, March 11th, at 2:07 PM, the East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to the 600 block of E. Reeceville Rd in West Brandywine Township for a rapidly spreading brush fire. Initial reports indicated a grass fire behind the property, quickly extending into nearby trees and brush due to dry and windy conditions.
Deputy 49, Engine 49-2, 49-5, and Utility 49-1 responded to the call. Upon arrival, Deputy 49 confirmed approximately half an acre of land on fire, with flames advancing toward a wooded area. Engine 49-2's crew quickly deployed three 1¾-inch handlines and a booster line to begin fire suppression efforts.
Despite the quick response, the fire had already spread into an area of trees and brush and involved an 8x10 shed. Given the conditions and fire volume, Full Company 33 and Tanker 35 were requested to the scene for additional support.
Crews worked together effectively, bringing the fire under control by 2:41 PM. In total, the fire scorched approximately one acre of brush and trees, impacting three properties and destroying an 8x10 shed.
This incident serves as a reminder of how quickly fires can spread, especially under dry and windy conditions. We thank all responding crews for their swift and coordinated efforts in containing the fire and preventing further damage.
